Tim Harrington

2014 Winner

Winnipeg, MB
Nominated by Brent Retzlaff

Volunteered for:

Siloam Mission

Length of Service:

30 hours per month for 7 years

February 18, 2014

Tim got involved in Siloam Mission after hearing about the mission on the radio. Tim first became a donor before he started to volunteer twice a week in the kitchen. Tim has always been very willing to pitch in where needed and became one of the first volunteers that we had help make coffee for the people that use our services.

Tim has been a great asset to our employment preparations program "Building Futures". Tim developed a group session that helped program participants to develop skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. He has taken this program and transferred it to our housing facility, The Madison, in order to help the residents there as well. It is through these group sessions that Tim has developed a relationship with many people that use our services and has been able to impact positive change in their lives.

Tim also invests time one-on-one with some our transitional services clients. Clients that are going through transition meet with our staff in order to help them accomplish goals that may include finding housing and employment. Tim assists by offering transformational coaching. He uses this as an opportunity to change peoples lives by showing them that they have the power to succeed.

Tim still spends regular time making coffee in the drop-in centre and is a valuable part of the community that is created there everyday.

Tim enjoys volunteering as it is an opportunity to use the skills that he has learned through a life of teaching and social work and sees his work at Siloam as a chance to give back. He is an active person and chooses to spend every day living life to the fullest.

Tim is a dedicated volunteer that has used his skills and strengths to change lives at Siloam in both big and small ways. Siloam Mission is very grateful to have volunteers like Tim that are committed to serve the marginalized community in Winnipeg.
