Bruce has lived in Port Coquitlam for over 30 years and has always contributed to his community through volunteerism from City committees (sports when his children were young) to now at the Seniors Centre. Bruce believes in giving back to his community. As a highly talented communicator and with his vast business background in marketing Bruce has been instrumental in raising the awareness of seniors issues in the community. Bruce got involved because "it is the right thing to do" and he enjoys helping others. He loves to see others benefit from his work. For example Bruce convinced the Wilson Centre Seniors Advisory Association (WCSAA) to reach out to isolated and homebound seniors by instituting a seniors outreach program called Community Volunteer Services for Seniors. This program (17 years in the running now) reaches out to seniors by providing a grocery shopping program, a visiting program and a telephone reassurance program for homebound and isolated seniors in order to facilitate these seniors ability to be able to age in place at their homes and in their communities. A program called Leisure Connections, for those seniors with mild dementia and/or alzheimers is also under Bruce's umbrella of services for seniors. Bruce is also the President of the WCSAA and between those volunteer duties ensuring the Centre is sustainable and viable for all seniors Bruce has also ensured that 170 isolated and homebound seniors are taken care of with the help of a 184 person volunteer force he is helped to build. In summary Bruce has made a huge positive difference in seniors lives and if you read even once testimony about how the programs have changed theirs lives you would actually cry. Bruce is an un-selfish and hughely giving man of whom we are proud to know.
