Volunteered for:

Community Volunteer Services for Seniors

Length of Service:

60 hours per month for 10 years

March 1, 2014

Community Volunteer Services for Services offers support to homebound and isolated seniors in our community. Barb is one of our Lead volunteers that make our grocery shopping program so successful. We have a team of volunteers that phone and shop for seniors that otherwise might not be able to live independently. Barb organizes all these volunteers every week, in a very efficient, caring and diplomatic way. Barb's past business management experience helps make her a volunteer leader that is both compassionate, efficient and very well respected. Every Monday Barb calls a list of seniors to take their grocery orders, along with ensuring that all our other volunteer phoners have what they need to complete their tasks. Barb will collect all the orders, organize them, inform the store of special orders and assign each order to one of our volunteer shoppers. Tuesday's are shopping day and Barb spends at least 4 hours at the store overseeing the shop. Volunteers know they can call Barb at a moments notice, at any point during the week, so this means that Barb is 'on call' almost 24/7 !
Barb is known by most of the Safeway staff and is well liked and respected by all.
Barb Kersch is a caring, compassionate lady who gives tirelessly of her time and talents to help those seniors in need within our community. We could not run this program as efficiently and compassionately as we do with out Barb as our team leader. Barb definately deserves to be recognized for her very important contribution to her community. Thanks so much for all you do, Barb.
